Iconic architecture and a colourful past motivated the renovation of this former Baptist church.
With its putting white steeple spearing the sky, sheltered guiding an imposing metal fence in the east Auckland suburb of Glendowie, it is as much a landmark today as it was when created in 1964.
The making has had a variety of incarnations – church, kindergarten and later a hat manufacturer’s warehouse. The homeowners, who bought it previously transformed then renovated it, say they are constantly meeting people today who have a link to the position.

Color, texture and sample have been applied with vigour throughout the property.
“There have been events when we have been introduced to a person who was baptised or married right here, or whose youngsters went to the kindergarten the church held downstairs.”
